"Full virtualization" shouldn't require modifications to the OS. Of
course, that depends on hardware support, so I think it's a CPU issue.

Timing loops?

Kick off a virtualization process of its own and compare performance?

Rely on bugs / errors / oversights in the x86 hardware support for 
virtualization ?
