The routing protocol. Its basicly too trusting. If one or 2 major backbone routers put out bad tables, it will get propogated worldwide quickly. A few years ago it happened, a bad routing table got out (I believe due to a security flaw), started propogating and suddenly traffic going from San Diego to LA was going via Chicago. A lot of problems there.
