People often shudder at thought of doing Subversion merges but

Speaking of subversion I just found this interesting article about svn adoption:

http://blogs.open.collab.net/svn/2007/08/unstoppable-sub.html

Check out that graph.

While subversion really probably is on that kind of a curve (I know that I contributed 30 students from my class to that 2 million estimate) ...

"Guido Haarmans is Director Developer Relations at CollabNet, he works on openCollabNet and CollabNet Subversion product marketing."

Check out that bias ...

I would be more interested in a comparison of the VCS systems broken down by projects rather than servers.

A single web hosting service that decided to enable the SVN module on every virtual machine/domain could easily bump 150,000 with a big whack.

If you totalled up the projects listed on Sourceforge or listed on Freshmeat and then got that kind of curve, it would be much more compelling.
