Just to throw out another choice for /really/ simple SMTP servers...
nullmailer is one you may consider. I haven't a clue how it compares
to ssmtp, but it was easy to set up when I did it last (a couple years
back). It's purpose is to provide a way to get the outbound e-mail
to the mail hub just like ssmtp, and doesn't listen to incoming SMTP
connections.
