The institute where I took my professional training in 'tronics ran almost all 
of their manufacturing machines with DOS. no need to put up Pentium-II/256MB 
with Windows where a 386 with 2MB RAM could do the job.

*Personally* I would've gone for pure assembler on some 80535, but, oh well :)
