Something else to keep in mind is that most of these companies wouldn't be doing anything environmentally friendly if it weren't for the EU regulations. So, they trumpet their "environmental friendliness" when they are simply doing what the law requires and no more.
Most of these businesses *must* comply with these kinds of regulations (for example, lead-free solder) in order to sell in the EU. After that, it's simply cheaper to have one line rather than two.
