I would think it would be REALLY hard to not drink coffee in the Navy.
It really wasn't.
During my TDD duty at Seafloat[1], I had to stand an 81mm mortar mount
watch (actually firing the mortar, not watching it). One mount was next
to the mess hall. The first time I stood that watch, I was informed that
it was also my duty to make coffee for the rest of the watch. You know,
in one of those 10-gallon tank-with-a-spigot things.
What did I know about making coffee. I can't stand it[1]. Well, no way
I'm going to make someone else's drug of choice. HELL no!!
I made the coffee. I made it by dumping a whole can of the stuff into
the can and adding an ignorant amount of water (filter? Coffee needs a
filter? It's not clean out of its own 5 pound can?). I turned the thing
on and reported back to my station, "Coffee's on!".
It didn't take long before every watch station on the float was
screaming about the coffee and wanting to know "Who the fuck made this
shit?!!". Needless to say, I was never asked to make coffee again. Ever.

[1] What's Seafloat? Google it. Or stat here:

[2] The only thing worse than the taste of coffee is the smell of
coffee, and the only thing worse than that is the smell of fresh brewing
coffee. Thoroughly and literally nauseating. Especially early in the
morning on an empty stomach.
