To give away one of my secrets: the Fedora Unity project produces
Fedora images that are updated every few months with the latest
patches. The images come with control files for jigdo "Jigsaw
Download".

The advantages of this download system are that partial downloads can
easily be resumed, and ISO images can be updated from previous
downloads. Also subset ISO images, such as the CDs can be constructed
from the corresponding DVD without any additional download except for
control files.

The only disadvantage I have found is that downloads are distributed
among many repository sites, and a few of the sites are very slow, or
non-responsive. But after a while that times out and continues from
some other site.
