Some communicative subset of the geeks has to be present to keep the
information exchange on track.  I sometimes browse mailing lists which
seem to be mostly poorly-informed people sharing their lack of
knowledge.

Over the past few years we have gone through a few attempts to do
something like this, with little lasting success.
