My SanDisk MobileMate SD+ SDDR-104 card reader and SanDisk Micro SDHC
4GB card work perfect with Linux. Plug the card into the reader, the
reader into the USB port, and up pops a new removable drive on my
desktop. Double click and it opens in a drive window in Konquerer. I can
copy, play, rip, edit MP3s, pictures from my phone, and folders to my
heart's content. All is good and I am happy.
I've been doing web development and part of that is using my Vista box
to make sure sites work correctly with IE7 and Vista (as well as look
decent on a wide screen monitor). I wanted some music playing to
partially drown out the background noise in the house (kids home for
summer). I plug the card and reader into the USB port, and Vista, after
grinding away for a bit, reports that it has no idea what I just plugged in.
There is no driver on the SanDisk site as the thing does "just work"
with XP. You'd think it would work with Vista too, right? (well, I
didn't expect it to, but I figured I'd try)
No wonder Vista sales are in the toilet and Linux is still gaining in
popularity. I find more things in Linux that "just work" than I do in Vista.
