You can also do this with PayPal. You can effectively put a limit on the
one time charge by only transferring that amount to PayPal then
designating that as your only funding source.
But with Visa I get a consumer protection system very much in my
favor. To sign up with PayPal, you have to agree to something much
less in your favor.
If I don't receive a product I ordered, Visa will reverse the charges.
PayPal might.
