The author of the article claims that the religious adherence to Free Software--in this case, use of an open, but comparatively little used, codec--makes the FSF their own worst enemy. I tend to respect their principles, but agree that it puts them in an uphill battle from a PR perspective. The creation of their own GNU/Linux distribution was an aside, but one I found interesting enough to discuss.
