Most languages/compilers fail to identify all the possible scenarios that can end in disaster. Truth be told, good C++ compilers these days do a remarkable job of catching "undefined behavior".

The C++ language seems intent on creating as many disaster-ending scenarios
as it can. I remember the first time I tried writing an exception handler.
The language/compiler had no problem with me expressing an exception where
the exception data lived right on the stack--the one it was just going to
unwind. My program even worked for a little while.

That's when I decided that the features of C++ weren't really going to help
me.
