Hi all, I have an old pentium laptop (~400mhz) with a small hard

Thanks, Herb
Others have mentioned Damn Small Linux, which will indeed run really
well on an older pentium, and only needs about 350 MB or so of HD space.
Or, you can run it from the CD and not use any HD space at all. However,
you may find it a little too "spartan" for your needs.
Consider VectorLinux (http://www.vectorlinux.com/). It is based on
Slackware and designed with older hardware in mind.
Actually, Slackware or Debian would probably work just fine, provided
that you use a lightweight GUI such as XFce, Fluxbox or IceWM, rather
than Gnome or KDE.
