It will be interesting to see if this can be accomplished.  Before iTunes had
the feature, I used a program on two Macs called netTunes which allowed a
VNC-like control of the iTunes interface on a machine with their server app.
installed.

Note that Apple has a wired/WiFi device called AirPort Express which can take
iTunes streaming music and output it to a set of amplified speakers or a
stereo.

However, you may find that the same software project may offer a way to have a
DAAP player on Linux.
