Here is what I do and I'm sure someone can find a flaw in it but it works for me so... When buying from itunes I prefer the + versions. however that is not available form all artists. I buy what I like and immediately burn it to disk for archive. Archive being this case of CDs that I carry in the car. The overflow goes in a box in the hall closet. in case I ever need the disk again. I then re-import the CD i just burned into itunes therefore technically duplicating every song but my import settings are set to a nice quality level and .mp3 format instead. I move the mp3s over to my network storage and from there every other system in the house has access to play/copy (naughty). Also all the Cds i bought before i moved to itunes were imported into it. So I have all those in mp3 as well. Took forever.
itunes has the originals, which go onto my ipod as well. I have mp3s for everything else and for permanent archive. Playing these mp3s on my Linux system works fine without issue. If I lose the actual purchased .aac or whatever form the mac I really don't care, mp3 is good enough for me. CDs get played in the car till I am sick of them and then they go in the box in the house. -Chris On Wed, Jun 25, 2008 at 10:10 AM, James Keeline <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > --- [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: > >> I'm still having trouble w/Itunes...not major, I have another box, a Mac >> Mini, where I get it fine...I think I probably put my previous question >> wrong: I'm not trying to download the itunes files onto my linux box, >> but simply to be able to use the *sharing* of music, where u can listen >> to yer itunes on another--up to five--computer. >> >> It may be way beyond my capabilities--not unusual--but having finally >> gotten successful at installing linux, I now feel emboldened...so if >> anyone has had luck at being able to just listen to their itunes on >> linux, I'd appreciate any info, even where to begin to look...I've been >> googling around, but it seems most of what I find is aimed at serious >> hackers wanting to get hold of the itunes files...me, I just want to see >> if I can hear my old rock and roll on my ubuntu 8.04... >> >> TIA >> >> geff > > It will be interesting to see if this can be accomplished.
