I wonder if something has changed in newgrp. The man.page looks
really peculiar as far as enumerating the conditions under which
newgrp will work.

After logging out and in again, I can now run the VirtualBox programs
that require membership in group vboxusers. But I still can't "newgrp
vboxusers". I either get asked for a password or not, depending on
how I modify the entry for vboxusers /etc/gshadow. Either leaving it
as set up by the RPM installation (un-matchable group password) or
changing to indicate no group password.

In fact, by experiment, the only group that I belong to that I can
successfully "newgrp" to is "staff" which has no entry in
/etc/gshadow. So I don't understand. And this is wandering far from
newbie territory.

$ sudo /usr/sbin/vigr

Or probably with the GUI System -> Administration -> Users and Groups
