I'm hot asking how to cut and paste. I know how to do that for text and
graphics things, too.

But how can I examine and otherwise manage (eg clear) the contents of
the "clipboard" in my gnome system.

I see there is a program called xclipboard, but when I try to run it it says
  "Error: another clipboard is already running"

Searching around, I find something called gcm (Gnome Clipboard Manager),
but it seems possibly inactive, and gives compile problems (which I can
fix) but when I get a trial build, trying to run gcm also reports an
error similar to above, namely;
  "GCM: another application that does clipboard management is
   already running"

So which program does the clipboard management, and how do I do anything
with the clipboard besides cut and paste.

Regards,
..jim
