I don't really see this as an issue. We don't really need much in the
way of development tools, and from a security point of view, there
shouldn't be any on a web server/mail server. It only makes it easier
for the crackers to compile their tools, if they break in to the
server.

How much does dom0 need? I've no set up Xen myself yet, but it seems
that a minimal install would be required for dom0.

I'm not a big fan of Debian, however I'm not that sensitive about it
either. Since the consensus seems to run against me, I agree.

We want to run a server for the group, not spend the next month
compiling all the software that runs the the server. I don't think
Gentoo is a good choice, for a publicly accessible and group
maintained server. Gentoo is too high maintenance.
