OK, so we have the possibility of two printers showing up, and Carl
won't have to carry them. Are they all network printers? Is Carl
willing to do a presentation about how to get a printer working and
cool things you can do with printing? Do we need to set up an ad hoc
network? Would it be advisable to ask others to bring printers?

Can I write an announcement for the web site? What should it say?

You know, I would not really like to do this as a cold demo.

I have a medium-sized HP Business InkJet printer that I can bring. In
fact, by some quirk of spontaneous purchases I have 3 of them. Two in
use on different computers, the third one because it was cheap and has
a full set of ink cartridges which are spares for the other two.

I also have an HP USB to Ethernet printer adapter. So I would try to
demo setting up a USB printer and an Ethernet printer using CUPS.
Also the use of the duplex attachment for printing on both sides of
the paper, and trying to use the second paper supply tray.

Anything else on the "would like to see" list that I can make work.
The ad hoc networking consists of a single Ethernet switch and some
cables, as far as I can tell.

Well, here's my topic request, prompted by a recent post by rbw which
included a nice printer configuration tidbit.

Printers and Printing
---------------------

Things I'd like to see:
(others may wish to add to this)

How to cope with standard things
minimum margins
getting accurate previews

How to use some special printer capabilities such as
duplex
alternate feed bins
quality adjustments
maybe: some fancy stuff like binding offset, color-matching

How to get applications to do reasonable things
fit to page
position on page
split large things (spreadsheets, pictures) _sensibly_
maybe: for best pasting-back-together

Will do some trials during the next few days.
