Because they work well and are quite reliable .  I rebuilt my MS carb 
nearly 500 hours ago and have not touched it since.  The only time my 
engine has sputtered was when I suffered a brain cramp and shut off 
the fuel.  It's tough to reinvent the wheel.  They're round and they roll.
