You SHOULD feel bad for not being there. Only 5 KRs showed up, and as Dan Heath pointed out, they were all TAILDRAGGERS! Heath made a clean sweep of all the awards, except Jeff Scott got farthest flown by a huge factor. Next year there will be at least two freshly minted KRs, Robert Pesak's and Mike Sylvester's, so there will be steep competition. Steve Glover volunteered Chino California last week, and I pitched it. All pilots were in favor of it before it was voted on, and most of the folks I talked to. There were about 50 people at the Banquet, and I think Chino won over MVN by about five votes. Many of us are ready for something a little different, and most of the pilots have been threatening to fly to California for years. This will ensure that we do it. It's up to Steve what time of year it's held, but hopefully it will be the usual late summer time-frame, or whatever it takes to ensure we have good weather and lowest winds out west, if there's any such thing. I talked to Joe Horton on the way home this morning, and he's fired up as well. I'm really looking forward to it. Jeff Scott says he's about 10 hours of flying time from MVN (from Las Alamos), and I think Chino is maybe four more out from there. Sounds like a two-day journey, so we may pick a spot to rendezvous and spend the night out there somewhere. Sounds like a hoot! It was another good Gathering and lots of useful information was exchanged. Thanks again to Larry for all the effort he puts into this, and we'll need to help Steve get ready for his Gathering. A serious effort has to be made to get the west coast KRs to show up for this. We need to see "new" KRs and talk to other pilots. A little cross-pollination would be good...
