Dan Good series of tests. A little bit extra that I found. I think the seepage is due to a minute groove cut into the inlet valve face. I think is is done to keep it lubricated with fuel otherwise it can become stuck to the seat if it dries out. I noticed this when I dismantled a pump to free it up, three or so years back.
