Yep, you're right. I was thinking of the Corvairs, mostly. And the bead chain method will work fine for retrofit after the fact. I'm going to order some stainless #6 bead chain from www.mcmaster.com (part number 3606T16 for 39 cents a foot) and make mine internal.
