Del,
I stole this idea from Troy Petteway and it works beautifully for
trimming the rudder and I do not even have a trim tab on my rudder. From
the left rudder pedal, run a cable to a pulley attached to the firewall
and back toward the instrument panel or wherever you wish to mount a
slotted bracket. Prior to reaching the instrument panel attach a spring
to the cable. From the other side of the spring attach some ball chain
like the kind you see on a lot of pull chain light fixtures. Fabricate a
slotted tab which extends below the panel or wherever you wish to mount
it. At the top of that slot drill a hole large enough for the chain to
pass through. Have slack in the chain for takeoff and when in cruise you
can pull the chain through the slotted bracket and set the chain in the
slot where needed for rudder trim. The purpose of the spring is that if
you forget to release the trim upon landing, etc. (which I have done)
then you will not damage anything. Works like a charm and is an easy
installation.
