Having them hanging from behind the fuel tank I can tell you that I would have them mounted to the floor if it were me, just for easier maintenance. Their support was all in the way of the motor mounts. Even if I were not changing the engine, but just removing the motor mount due to breakage, or adding nose wheel (no way!) or modifying it for weight and balance, I would have a major ordeal due to the overhead mounting.
