Serge. I used 3/4 inch torque tube, but on the ends I use a 2 inch length of T6 , 1 inch hollow section ( square) this was a slide fit over the tube, I welded ( but you could rivet) and arm to one end of the square section , I attached the square section to the tube with two AN bolts at 90 deg to each other.
