You could use West Systems to repair the crack. I can guaranty that it won't fail at the repair if done right. Your only problem is to find out why it failed. It sounds like it was not built right in the first place or he put the holes to close to the edge or each other. Change it out and get rid of that retractable gear. I tried making that retractable gear work for a year. I Findlay changed it to a fixed gear and fared it in and the plane pick up about 10 to 12 mph. West Systems was designed for wood repair.
