Of course the spinner will give you smoother air flow around the prop hub and contacting the front of the cowling. This will also allow smooth air to pass over your cowl which all equates to a more aerodynamic aircraft which results in improved flight performance i.e. an increase in your top end speed. I have flown with and without a spinner and noticed a few mph increase in top end. If you mount a spinner properly with a front and rear bulkhead, you should not loose a spinner in flight. Always inspect your spinner before flight for cracks, etc. I have lost a spinner in flight due to using a cheap spinner and not deburring the cutouts I made for the prop.
