Has anyone ever used or have opinion on Tap Plastics brand resin for
  there skins?

I have used Tap's resin, I think the "General purpose" is the same as what
they called "Workhorse" resin in the 80's. I have used both and can't tell the
difference. I got good results with it but I use West Systems now and won't go
back. As I recall, their literature indicated that the 50/50 mix was non
critical. Don't believe it! I spent time playing with different methods of
mixing which included varying the accuracy of the mix. It's been a long time
now but as I remember, to much hardener and the cured resin is more flexible,
to much resin and it looks like the excess resin segregates and forms a sticky
film on the surface but you can't clean it off. I never had trouble wetting
out wood or fabric but West is much easier to work with. The other thing that
you might be concerned with in Reno is thermoplast. I always mixed in small
batches, about 1.5 to 2 oz. Again, if memory serves me, above 80 F It goes
off in a very short time so keep the mass small and get it out of the mix
container asap. I have used Tap's resin on other projects besides my plane and
have always been satisfied with it's strength and durability. My advise is to
play around with it before you attempt to use it on a real airplane part. If
you want to discuss it more contact me of net.
