I finally got to talk to the guy. The engines came from a vo-tech school,
but had never been pulled down. The current owner is an A&P and he's never
had any reason to pull them down, said they would have to be gone thru and
checked out. He's "reasonably confident" that between the two engines one
good one can be built at a "reasonable cost". The cost for BOTH of these
engines is $1500- so that's not bad. Another possibility of a similar
engines has also popped up, totally rebuilt & certified in the $10k range.
Considering what it MAY cost to rebuild one of these, the Corvair is
remaining a distinct possibility though. Decisions-decisions...lol
