Oscar Zuniga did some research for the community many years ago and came up
with a 3M-444 double-sided tape that worked well, along with a roll of 10
mil mylar that the sailplane folks use for gap seals. It came in a 4" roll
and I split it in half. It made some speed difference on Troy Petteway's
stock wing KR (aileron hinged at the top) and lightened his aileron feel.
But when I did that on mine, which is hinged from the bottom and with an
integral hard fiberglass seal that extends from the top of the wing over the
aileron, it made no discernable difference in speed on mine. My guess is
that the seal that I built into the back of the wing was working just fine.

I don't have a good picture of what I mean by "integral gap seal", but the
photo at http://www.n56ml.com/kmlht5.jpg should give you idea, even if it's
the elevator. The one I did for the wing was much more substantial, which
is why I hinged it from the bottom to allow that. I'm not entirely sure it
was worth the trouble though (piano hinges sure are easy), because the
hinges hung out from under the wing and caused some drag, and I've never
bothered to fair them in. Maybe on the next plane...
