Larry, I didn't build my plane and I had never had my wheels and brakes both completely apart before.

Sounds like your system was do for a rebuild.  I started with a set of Clevelands from a salvaged C150, did a rebuild, and flew that for a year or two.  600X6 is a bit oversized for the KR so I switched to a used set of 500X5 and installed a set of RV wheel pants.  I did a complete cleaning, new "o" ring, paint, and installed.  That's probably 15 or more years ago.  New linings a time or two but like others I use brakes very little.  I replaced the lower gear leg fitting with steel before Diehl recalled the tiny little cast unit that was breaking. It seemed inadequate when I pulled it out of the box.  Mine predates Diehl but is very similar.  Mine is 2" wide, his is 2 1/2" I think, mine has square corners and his has a rounded bottom.  My brake line runs up the front of the leg inside a foam tube I added to the leg.  Wow !! that was a long time ago...............
