CAUTION !!!!!!

Which ever motel you choose, call them directly, at the Mt.Vernon front desk and don't book with one of the on-line booking services.  That just cost me 90 minutes on the phone and $20 lost.

I booked a $71 dollar a night room at Motel 6 as I've stayed there in past years and it is, well, O.K. for what I need, a bed and a shower.  Absolutely nothing more.  I got my confirmation e-mail and the total was $294.   That was a $20 fee (non-refundable) to the booking service and $30 of fees that no one could tell me what they were for after 90 minutes on the phone.  I should have given up sooner but I'm hard headed and don't back peddle in a good fight.  I finally found the number for the front desk at Mt.Vernon and with them the cost is $71+$10 tax, no fees, nothing extra.  What that amounts to is the booking agent (Reservations.com) was slipping in a total of $50 of fees on the sly.  All that time on the phone and no one could or would tell me what the fees were about.

Lesson learned by a once a year traveler:  Call the motel directly, front desk,  and book, no scams, hidden fees, and all that crap.  Deal directly with the people you are doing business with.

Old and slow but not room temperature yet.
