I'm not sure I know how to parse this. Is the high level message that there is work in progress such that we will have an answer for applications much like SMF is the answer for services, but that answer isn't quite here yet? If I got that right, we can talk about obsoleting /etc/default when that answer is here and somewhat accepted. - jek3
