waduh,
sayang aku tak pandai bahasa english, sehingga tak berani
menterjemahkannya.
tapi seandainya berita-berita dalam negeri ditulis dng. gaya begini
kan lebih enak mengikutinya ya?
kita diberi tahu lewat judul akan fakta yang ada (pemberhentian
menteri
ekonomi)
kemudian disodori tanggapan salah satu menteri yang diberhentikan
dengan
permintaan (dengan hormat tentunya).
selanjutnya diberi latar belakang utama, mengapa 2 menteri ekonomi itu
diminta "leren" (bukan lengser lho.. kalau lengser mah mlorot) sbg.
menteri,
yang menunjukkan bahwa masalahnya tak lain adalah "technically
bankrupt"
dan belum berhasilnya tim menteri ekonomi "menggaet" dana IMF dst-dst.
jauh dari muatan "siapa diganti siapa", siapa musuh siapa dsb-2....
lho.. kan enak se?

salam,

soeloyo, dul!

Indonesia Economic Ministers Fired
By HARIS SYAMAUN=
Associated Press Writer=
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) _ President Abdurrahman Wahid fired two
key financial ministers on Monday, just hours after the
International Monetary Fund's top official warned him not to
backslide on a commitment to reform the crisis-ridden economy.
Trade and Industry Minister Yusuf Kalla and Investment Minister
Laksamana Sukardi were replaced by an army general and top
bureaucrat, senior officials said.
``The president has asked me and Laksamana Sukardi to resign
because the economic team in the Cabinet was not cooperating
well,'' said Kalla.
Senior IMF officials declined to comment. Two other economics
ministers remain in place.
It was fourth time Wahid has replaced members of his
six-month-old government.
Speculation about a reshuffle among Wahid's four-member economic
team has been rife in the Indonesian media since Wahid scolded the
team for its failure to implement reforms mandated by the IMF.
Other critics have accused the team of internal divisions and
incompetence.
Earlier Monday, visiting IMF acting managing director Stanley
Fischer emerged from talks with Wahid and warned the government not
to waver from financial reforms.
``I believe the president will renew his efforts to implement
the program,'' Fischer said.
Scores of Indonesian corporations and banks are technically
bankrupt. The Indonesian currency, the rupiah, last week slumped to
its lowest level since Wahid, who is regarded as a reformer, came
to power ending years of authoritarian rule.
Last month the government failed to meet a deadline set by the
IMF. Frustrated by the lack of progress, the Washington-based fund
shelved the payment of a crucial $400 million installment of a
multibillion loan to keep the economy afloat.
That decision rang alarm bells in Jakarta and triggered the
rupiah's slide.
In a bid to placate the IMF, the government last month set up a
high-level committee to combat corruption.
