As to whether or not the system knows you're using the 7600 vs. 7400 phones,
the TDA definitely knows which type of instrument is connected. Now, as for
the cards to add...

On the TDA50 you can use the built in DHLC4 card for 4 SLT's and 4 DPT just
as you would with any other hybrid ports. To get more than 4 SLT's on the
system, you must add either an SLC4 or SLC8 card. While the PLC4 and PLC8
cards support the analog system phones and therefore use pair 1 for the
voice channel, they do not support SLT's, digital phones, cell stations,
etc. Basically, the PLC cards only support 7700/7300/7000 series phones and
TVS voice mail systems (although I'm not sure if VPS support includes DPITS
mode or only APITS). The PLC cards do not have DTMF receivers, which I
assume helps keep their cost down (Too bad they don't make them for the
TDA100/200's). They are a good compromise for customers with existing
7000/7300/7700 phones who are migrating to the TDA.

There is also an HLC4 card (but not an HLC8), which appears to be almost the
same as the PLC4, except that it includes DTMF receivers to allow for the
use of SLT's (and it can support Cell Stations). However, with the HLC4 the
SLT's can only be used in parallel mode; it does not give you XDP ports like
the built-in DHLC4 card. In fact, the 4 built-in DHLC ports are the only
such hybrid ports you can get on the TDA50.

To get 13 7600's on the system, you'll need to add at least a DLC8. You
could use the DLC8 along with the built-in DHLC4 ports to get 12 digital
ports. Then, using DXDP you could theoretically get up to 24 7600's on just
these ports. However, in reality it's easiest to just use the DXDP feature
for a few phones to get the capacity you need. Also, you wouldn't be able
to use the DXDP feature on any port that was connected to:
  a 7600 phone requiring OCHA
  a 7600 phone with a 7601 USB interface
  a cell station
  a TVS voice mail system
Of course, you could always just add a DLC4 and DLC8 card, or a pair of DLC8
cards, but you are also limited to a max of one 4-port extension card
(DLC4/PLC4/HLC4/SLC4) and a max of two 8-port cards (DLC8/PLC8/SLC8).

So, if you configure the TDA50 with an SLC4 and DLC8 you would be able to
connect 8 SLT's and from 12 to 24 7600's, and this would probably be the
most cost effective configuration. Also the TDA50 can handle up to 24 7600's
and 24 SLT's without need for the additional power supply.
