If you short the data pins of any extension connected to the switch it will 
affect all other extensions. I found that one out while I was trying to 
isolate a problem on a kxtd1232. I would guess that you have a wiring 
problem for one or more extensions. Disconnecting that extension wiring from 
the switch will stop your phones from going crazy. It might take a while to 
find that problem child. Especially if it is intermitten.
