My guess is the surge protector...sounds like it is breaking down and tripping ringing...often after multiple hits the breakdown voltage gets lower and lower...

I also had a problem once where a cordless set was not seated well in the base and it was "self answering" after a couple of rings....cleaning the contacts solved the problem.

Subject: KX-T: 824 Cuts out after 4 or 5 Rings

I am troubleshooting an 824. It has 2 incoming COs. If one is busy it rolls
to the second line after 6 rings. Recently when people call in on the main
or first line it rings 3 or 4 times there is slight "pop" like a disconnect and they lose the connection. I had Qwest out and they rang the line out and
they claim all is fine. Today I had the Alarm company switch their
connection to the fax line. It is not connected to the KSU. I just tried it and almost every time it pops and cuts out after a few rings. I am somewhat
distant from the sight, so I am trying to gain any insight I can before
taking another look. I wonder if the KSU could be causing the problem?
Anyone had a similar problem? The only other thing in the loop is the
Panamax phone line surge protector.
Thanks
