For an answer to A

get a tape recorder _handset_ adapter from Radio Shack.
They are made to take sound from the handset and plug it into the mic jack
on the recorder, instead, plug it into the earphone jack from the tape
recorder (spkr out on the pc) and you should be able to get the audio into
the handset that way.

There are more expensive models that should do it better, but that should
work. Call another extension and play with the volume adjustments to get it
to sound good.

For B, explain a bit more what you want to do. When the caller is on hold,
how will the employees know they are waiting to be answered? You could have
it ring to a "stand alone" ringer on an analog port that everyone can hear.
Set it for a supervised transfer and no mailbox so it doesn't get dumped to
a box.
You can also use the intercom paging feature if you tweak some prompts. Set
a box/extension to intercom paging and record the "owners name" as something
like "customer service". When a call gets transfered to that ext. it will
page through the whole system "call for customer service". I do that at
home to get my kids to answer the phone. I recorded the box owners name to
say "Dad's calling, pick up the line with the blinking light!". Now when I'm
calling in and I know their home but didn't answer, I hit #8 123 and wait.
They eventually put down their mouse and pick up the phone. That #8123
could easily be a menu option.
Or you could use UCD with a timetable, but you might need to get the DISA
card to get it to do the answering, I don't know if the UCD works from the
TVS.
