MAIN SPONSOR: COALITION AGAINST DR-CAFTA
As the House of Representatives begins the debate
on CAFTA, the Central American Free Trade Agreement,
the activists who have struggled against this
insideous trade agreement for over three years will
gather at La Placita Church in downtown Los Angeles to
monitor the debate and the vote.
The vote is predicted for either late tonight or
tomorrow morning.
Vigils against CAFTA are taking place in El
Salvador and throughout Central America and the
Dominican Republic. In Washington, D.C. a "Vigil
Against CAFTA" is on-going at this time.
The Central American community, the solidarity
movement in the United States and the many
organizations who have mobilized against CAFTA will be
together to watch the developments tonight in the
House.
The Coalition was encouraged this afternoon by the
announcement of Congresswoman Susan Davis [D-CA] of
San Diego that she would vote against CAFTA. She has
been a focus of Coalition work.
