Today I sent my senators and Congressman the following email. You are welcome
to use any or all of it for your own email. (I don't have a website, or I
would set up one of those nifty little programs where you can just fill in your
name and it will send the pre-written email for you.)
Personally, I think that the shootings in Virginia were a DELIBERATE act by
the same people who orchestrated 911. The White House was TOO QUICK to use the
massacre as an excuse to keep Gonzles from testifying. I think the Bush Regime
is DESPERATE not to have Gonzales brought before Congress. A friend of mine
says there is NO WAY the ammunition from the kind of weapon they supposedly
used in Virginia could have blown off the suspect's face so that it would be
impossible to identify him. Hmmmmm...............
Peace and best wishes,

Dear Congressman/Senator,
Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was supposed to testify in Congress today
about his responsibility in the politically-motivated firings of U.S.
attorneys. Many of us also want to know why he thinks torturing people will do
any good, and why the protections according ALL peoples by the Geneva
Conventions should not be extended towards people who have not been charged
with any crime.
His testimony was cancelled due to the deaths of students at the campus in
Virginia. While I sincerely regret those deaths, I would like to know WHAT DO
THE DEATHS OF STUDENTS IN VIRGINIA HAVE TO DO WITH TESTIMONY BY THE ATTORNEY
GENERAL IN WASHINGTON? Is he personally involved in mourning the death of a
particular student? If not, why should those deaths have any bearing on his
being unable to testify?
This sounds to me like a simple case of "the dog ate my homework," as Sen.
Leahy so rightly pointed out a few days ago.
I think that Senators should DEMAND that Atty. Gen. Gonazales stop playing
games with them and start producing some honest answers. How would he feel if
the torture that he supports should be used on HIM? At the very least, sit
should be suspended on everybody else. Certainly, his cavalier attitude
towards the Congress, and our most sacred civil liberties should be grounds
enough to impeach him and remove him from an office he so clearly is not worthy
of holding.
Your loyal constituent,
Romi Elnagar
