Has anyone mentioned "The Eyre Affair" yet? It's by Jasper Fforde and there are currently two sequels - "Lots in a Good Book" and "The Well of Lost Plots".
They're really hard to explain, but basically, the heroine (Thursday Next) has the ability to jump into books. She has a pet dodo called Pickwick, her dad's a time-travelling policeman, and she's trying to stop the bad guys getting hold of an invention of her uncle's that allows anyone to get into books. In the second one, Miss Havisham (of Great Expectations) takes her on as an apprentice. >From the www.amazon.co.uk review "With "real" characters who can stop time or travel back and forth in it, hear their own names (the names here are really terrific!) from 1000 yards away, appear in duplicate before themselves to give advice, travel inside books, and change the outcome of history, the reader journeys through Fforde's looking glass into a different and far more literary universe than the one we know. Thursday Next, a SpecOp-27 in the Literary Detective Division of Special Operations, is looking for Acheron Hades, who has stolen the original manuscript of Martin Chuzzlewit and killed one of the characters in it, thereby changing the story forever. Thursday and the Literatecs are trying to prevent him from getting inside Jane Eyre and committing further murders." http://www.jasperfforde.co.uk Enjoy Deborah ===== Deborah Metters 'Per ardua ad astra' ________________________________________________________________________ Want to chat instantly with your online friends?
