So a back-catcher in baseball is the same as a wicket keeper in cricket, who
can choose to wear a helmet with face guard, but usually chooses to wear a
hat with a peak facing forwards or a brim to keep the sun out of his eyes
because cricket is (hopefully) played in full sunlight. The two batsmen in
cricket tend to wear protection about the head (helmet with face guard)
because, although the object isn't for the bowler to toss the ball so that
it bounces on the ground and hits the batsman in the face, that's what a lot
of bowlers try to do as it stops the batsman getting any runs off that ball.
