I hope you can find it preserved.  This reminded me of the altar cloth I
have in my collection.  At least, I think it's an altar cloth.  It was sold
as a tablecloth, but is too narrow and too long for a normal table.  It has
a strip of Milanese down the center the long way, and narrow strips across
each end.  The center strip needed minor repair, but the end sections need
some restoration.

I've never tried restoring anything, but I think this one is worth the 
effort, and is fairly simple.  The sections that need replaced are straight
tapes of clothwork about 1/4 inch wide and 2 feet long.  The biggest
challenge will be matching the thread, then attaching the design to the
new edging.

Has anyone restored a piece of lace?
