hello everyone Thank you to all who answered my plea for help - and all the suggestions and memories ;) The wee child is too small for gloves - and yes, can't imagine trying to force each little digit into its own 'sock' - mittens are more efficient IMO - and I'm *not* making tiny gloves... The string will go through a tab in the jacket - thanks Eva for mentioning this. The child in question doesn't like to get dirt and water directly on his hands but he loves to play 'ball' outdoors where it *will* be wet and soilsome - his mom requested the mittens, and the string/cord connection. I never had time to knit mittens for my own boys, and sure appreciated the handknits contributed by the aunties. We only put strings on the mitts for when they were wee - by the time the child was old enough to find and put on the mittens for himself, we felt he didn't need a string attaching them either (go us!).
