hello everyone

Thank you to all who answered my plea for help - and all the suggestions
and memories ;) The wee child is too small for gloves - and yes, can't
imagine trying to force each little digit into its own 'sock' - mittens
are more efficient IMO - and I'm *not* making tiny gloves... The string
will go through a tab in the jacket - thanks Eva for mentioning this. The
child in question doesn't like to get dirt and water directly on his hands
but he loves to play 'ball' outdoors where it *will* be wet and soilsome -
his mom requested the mittens, and the string/cord connection. I never
had time to knit mittens for my own boys, and sure appreciated the
handknits contributed by the aunties. We only put strings on the mitts for
when they were wee - by the time the child was old enough to find and put
on the mittens for himself, we felt he didn't need a string attaching them
either (go us!).
