"protect" them by making it illegal to breed them.

They were talking about it on a radio science program yesterday - so far, the only specimen they have found was dead - for sale in a market (for food!). No-one has yet seen a live one except perhaps the trapper. Research is now going on to find out how widespread it is because the fossils are generally found in other places rather than Laos.
