Patricia,

It's a matter of personal preference and what you need from your computer. I prefer my desktop computer. I prefer to use a full size monitor and keyboard. I like the fact that my case is big enough that I can load it up with extras like additional hard drives and a blu-ray drive. I like that it's cheaper and easier to upgrade hardware components so I can get a longer life from my computer. I need a lot of hard drive space for graphics/video processing, so I only use my laptop when I travel. My husband on the other hand, rarely uses his desktop computer. He prefers to sit on the couch in front of the TV with his feet up and his laptop in front of him. Full sized monitors, keyboards, and mice will attach to most laptops, so you could have a desktop setup if you prefer, but still have the
option to detach it and take it with you.

I use a separate scanner and printer because my desktop is large enough to support both and I wear out my printers, but my scanners last for ages. I usually scan or print and only occasionally need to make a copy of something. Sometimes the things that I scan are bulky like books or textiles, so this setup works best for me. Again, it's a matter
of your situation and how you use your peripherals.

1? I have a traditional pc.? Is there any advantage to switching to a laptop
for someone who only uses it at home and only wants to use it at home?

2 Is it better to purchase a plain printer and separate photocopier?? I have
been told that the computer support dept in at least one University here
advises that combined machines are unreliable.

Thank you.? Patricia in Wales
