I think this is one reason so many eBay vendors choose the Flate-Rate Priority mail. You figure out which container the item requires, and you know how much the shipping will be. For a tiny little bobbin, the lowest possible rate in Flate-Rate would be $4.95 (I think it's still that... maybe 5.95 now?) So yes, it's expensive. But OTOH, if you can fit two or three books into the next size up, and it ships all the way across the country, you may have a bargain rate.
