I learned that it's quite a process, you have to ferment the seeds! It's only after the seeds are nice and mouldy that you rinse them off and then put them in your fridge (not the freezer).

Mom spread tomato seeds on a piece of paper towel; when the gel on a seed dried up, it firmly glued the seed to the towel. Then she stored the towel in a cool dry place until time to plant.

If some towel stuck to the seed when you peeled it off, no sweat -- it won't hurt anything.
